A residency centre is a space designed for short and long term stays, not only for artists (there are, for example, executive residencies); a kind of concentration for individuals and groups. Especially for author's work, such places are needed in the early stages of the creation of a work or, on the contrary, just before its completion. At the same time, residency centres can substitute for a non-dense network of affordable studios and rehearsal rooms for artists. A residency space is a place that offers space to work (rehearsal room, studio), a place to meet (lounge, rehearsal room) and accommodation. The residential centre provides meals for the users and the staff of the centre provides all logistics and supplies for the residents during their stay so that the resident can concentrate only on the work. The artist/manager can either pay for the stay at the residency centre entirely by himself/herself, but with regard to funding in the arts sector, they tend to respond to open-calls, which residency centres announce either after they have received financial support from public or private sources, or, on the contrary, at the moment when they want to apply for such support, so that they can base their request already on specific names of artists/artistic units. Experience shows that residential centres naturally become centres of cultural offer in their region and gather around them people with similar interests. The rehearsal room thus becomes a public hall offering cultural activities to the local community.
